A Tender Farewell
I’m done trying to revive something that flatlined. I wasn’t the shape of love you needed, and my ghosts barged in louder than I ever meant them to. You mattered to me… but holding on would break us both. This is my apology, raw and honest. I’m letting go.
This is where I stop trying to CPR a relationship that flatlined while we were both still arguing about who unplugged the damn machine. This is where I stop trying to Jedi‑mind‑trick reality into giving us a different ending. No more cosmic bargaining, no more mental gymnastics, no more pretending we were one good conversation away from salvation.
This is me, letting go and saying the thing I should've said a long time ago.
Forgive me for not being enough for the version of love you needed. Not the whiny, manipulative, soap‑opera apology... just the bare‑knuckled fucking truth. I showed up with everything I had, and it still wasn’t the shape that fit you. Wrong key, wrong lock, wrong timing... pick your metaphor. The ending’s the same.
Forgive me for the ghosts I dragged in behind me. They don’t knock, they don’t ask permission... they just show up, sit on the couch, eat your snacks, and start offering their unwanted fucking commentary. You met parts of me I didn’t even know were still alive, and I’m sorry they kept showing up like they were on the fucking payroll.
Forgive me that sometimes when I reached for you, it felt like an emotional fire drill... and when you reached for me, I couldn’t always speak the language you were crying out in. We weren’t translating each other... we were guessing. Badly.
And look... I’m not here to hand out hero and villain badges. We weren’t a comic book. We were two people who honestly tried... while carrying emotional baggage so heavy it should’ve required a fucking forklift and a union rep.
Forgive me for the times I misread you... and the times you misread me... because honestly, we both deserved better subtitles.
Forgive me for how fast things escalated between us. One minute we’re laughing... the next minute the emotional smoke alarm’s going off and neither of us knows where the extinguisher is. Forgive me for the blowups, the misunderstandings, the stupid shit, the big shit, and everything in between. The stuff we never got right. The stuff we kept tripping over. The shit that turned small issues into big ass brick walls.
You deserved someone who could stand inside your storm without flinching. And maybe I deserved someone who didn’t need me to act like I had healed from things I hadn’t even finished admitting to.
But here’s the truth... you mattered to me. Deeply. Wildly. In the moments that made no sense and the moments that felt like home. Even when we were arguing. Even when the emotional math wasn’t mathing.
I’m not rewriting our story into tragedy or triumph. It was real. Messy. Beautiful. Complicated. Unpredictable. And real things sometimes break because the pressure is louder than the promise.
So here it is, the part that stings:
Forgive me for not being the man you hoped I could be. Forgive me for trying to love you with hands that were still shaking. Forgive me that the noise between us eventually drowned out the connection we swore we could protect.
And now I’m letting go. Not dramatically. Not angrily. Just... peacefully. Because holding on any longer would turn us both into versions of ourselves that neither of us would want to claim publicly.
I hope you find the peace you said you wanted. I hope I stop pretending I already had mine. And I hope someday the mention of my name doesn’t hit you like a punch... and yours doesn’t cause my soul to crumble.
This is my apology. Not the Hallmark version. Not the martyr version. Just the honest, human, slightly unhinged truth.
I wasn’t enough for the us we tried to build. But I am enough for me. And you are enough for you.
And that... finally... is the part where we let the story end without trying to rewrite the last chapter.
