Breaking the Cycle: Choosing Yourself

Breaking the cycle doesn’t feel powerful at first… it feels like loss. You’re not just letting go of them, you’re letting go of what you thought it could be. But once the noise fades and the pull weakens, something hits harder than anything else—clarity about yourself.

Breaking the Cycle: Choosing Yourself

When you stop waiting… and start walking away

There’s a point where something shifts. Not in them… in you.

And it doesn’t come from some big realization or dramatic moment of clarity. It comes from fucking exhaustion. From thinking about it too much, feeling it too often, and going in circles in your own head until you’re just… done. Done trying to understand it. Done trying to fix it. Done trying to make something work that never actually started.

At first, that feeling doesn’t feel like strength. It feels like loss and it hurts.

Even if it wasn’t real… it felt real enough. The conversations were real. The connection felt real. The moments, even if they were inconsistent, still meant something to you. So walking away from it doesn’t feel like gaining control. It feels like letting go of something you never fully had.

That’s the part that keeps people stuck. They don’t stay because it’s good. They stay because leaving feels worse. Because leaving means accepting that what you thought was there… wasn’t. That what you felt… wasn’t being matched. That what you were building… only existed on one side.

So instead of walking away, they hover. They check in. They keep the door cracked. They stay just close enough to feel connected on some level… but far enough away to never actually be chosen.

And that’s where the cycle lives.

Not in the other person.

In you.

In the part of you that keeps going back to something that’s already shown you what it is. Because breaking the cycle isn’t about them changing. It’s about you finally deciding that you’re not doing this shit anymore.

And that decision doesn’t feel powerful at first. It feels uncomfortable. It feels unnatural. Because you’ve trained yourself to stay… to understand… to give people time… to see the good in situations that don’t fucking deserve it.

So when you stop doing that… it feels wrong. Like you’re being cold. Like you’re giving up too soon. Like you’re not being who you normally are.

But you’re not becoming someone new.

You’re coming back to who you were before all of this. Before the overthinking. Before the adjusting. Before you started shaping yourself around someone else’s inconsistency.

And the way you do that isn’t complicated. It’s just fucking hard.

You stop checking. You stop reaching out. You stop creating reasons to stay connected. You stop telling yourself stories about what could still happen. You stop negotiating with something that’s already been decided.

And yeah… that feels like shit at first.

You’re not just letting go of them. You’re letting go of the version of the future you built with them. But once you get through that… something else starts to happen.

The noise starts to quiet down. The constant thinking slows. The emotional pull starts to weaken and you start to feel something you haven’t felt in a while.

Clarity.

Not about them.

About you.

What you actually want. What you actually deserve. What you’re no longer willing to fucking tolerate or waste effort on.

That’s where your power actually is.

Not in being chosen.

In deciding what you no longer accept.

Because the truth is… You don’t need to be chosen.

You need to stop choosing people who don’t choose you back.

And once you do that… Everything fucking changes.
